TGZ:
Salut, you all! Would you tell us: what
does, indeed, MORTIFILIA stands for?
|
Stanislav
Makrlik:
First of all, I would like to greet all metal
fans in Brazil!
Mortifilia is word for word “daughter
of death” – this word comes from
Latin. We’ve found this name in some
lexicon. Like we´ve found out, this
is also a bloody PC game, but we are older,
I guess... :)
|
TGZ:
What albuns has Mortifilia released so far? |
Stanislav Makrlik:
We´ve released only one regular album
called “Redemption” 2005. The
previous records were only demos. The first
demo „in your head“ 1999 , the
second demo „Care of Gomorrah“
2000 - these two demos were not the pure death
metal, because we were searching for ourselves.
I guess every band must pass through this.
The last demo „Christ hunt“ 2002
was the right way for us.
|
TGZ:
Now talking about your newest album “Redemption”:
what´s the nexus between this title
and the group of the songs recorded? |
Stanislav Makrlik:
Redemption is the selection of our best songs
and it is named after the one song which is
a little bit different then the other songs
– this is our opinion. There is no another
connection between title and the rest. We
were thinking about many names for the album
and we chose this “Redemption”
at last.
|
TGZ:
From the cover of the album we can see
the face of a dying woman, and some symbols
as well. What is the meaning behind all of
it? |

Stanislav
Makrlik:
The meaning is connected with the name of
our band – is that realy doughter of
death? ...or her victim??? There are also
symbols connected with our country and with
the time. This art has made designer from
Mondongo Canibale Record.
A good job, don’t you think?
(*N.R.:
-Yes, really !)
|
TGZ:
“Redemption” album was released
by the Spanish Mondongo Canibale Record. Are
you glad with their work in terms of the promotion
made? |
Stanislav
Makrlik:
Yes, we are glad with their work and promotion
they do for us. They contacted us in the same
time we were searched for an editor of our
first album. They offered the best conditions
to us. No alternative Czech editor would offer
us so big distribution in abroad... You can
hear about us even in Brazil J. We hope our
cooperation will continue without problem
thenceforward. Now we are negotiating about
the release of our 2nd album.
|
TGZ:
What about the feedback “Redemption”
is receiving?
|
Stanislav
Makrlik:
I think the feedback is very good here in
Czech, not many domestic bands play the same
style as we play, so we have many fans. We
can also see the feedback from outside, from
reviews in magazines or sometimes somebody
leave a massage in our web: www.mortifilia.cz
Mostly good responses, but sometimes dissatisfaction
with sound or old style.
|
TGZ:
The furious song played by Mortifilia reminds
glorious times of Dismember, Entombed, Unleashed,
At The Gates and so on… Do you play
covers of those bands during your presentations?
|
Stanislav
Makrlik:
You are right, we are strongly affected by
bands like Dismember and Entombed.
We played only one cover song from Dismember
during our activity, but it was 5 years ago
– “Collection of blood”.
This is great song and we played it for 2
or 3 years. Then we wanted to do another Dismember
song, but finally there was no time to do
it. We prefered to do our own songs. We´ll
see, maybe sometimes in the future...
|
TGZ:
You count more than 150 performances
over your country and outside. With such a
curriculum, certainly one or other curious
fact took place here and there; we´d
be pleased to hear about them… |

Stanislav
Makrlik:
Yeah...we have many stories throughout our
career. The intersing thing is that the most
of them happend on the way to concert or back.
Sometimes can be a little dangerous. Once...it
was after some terrorist attack in the world,
we travelled to concert in Austria –
Innsbruck. We crossed the border and after
2 miles there was an army patrol with the
mask on their faces and weapons in their hands.
They stoped our car, we all had to go out
of car and stand in line. They checked all
car and quitar boxes. It is terrible feeling
when the gun is pointing to you. They didn´t
find anything except the bottles and cans
with beer :)
|
TGZ:
How is the metallic scene over your region?
|
Stanislav
Makrlik:
There was a big metal scene in our country
few years ago, but the last years the organization
and especially the visiting of metal concerts
fall down. We can see this effect when we
play in the same club or city with very good
bands and the visit is very poor. But there
are still some clubs and festivals where is
a tradition and this is very important.
|
TGZ:
Does Mortifilia know anything about the Brazilian
metal scene?
|
Stanislav Makrlik:
Yes,...sometimes we can hear and see the Brazilian
bands in the Czech republic. I think you have
very good scene. Krisiun is very good, I heard
also Agrotoxico and of course Sepultura and
Soulfly, but they are more americans...
|
TGZ:
Plans for 2007?
|
Stanislav
Makrlik:
Our biggest target is recording of our new
album. The recording is planned for summer
and release in fall. We’re also planning
to do a little tour in Czech and if we will
have a chance also concert in abroad.
|
TGZ:
Right! We from the ThunderGod Zine thank
you for the interview. Space is now open for
you to leaving message to all of our maniac
readers… |
Stanislav
Makrlik:
Thank you for your attention. Many greetings
to all metal fans in Brazil. I hope you will
hear about Mortifilia after the release of
the 2nd album at the end of 2007. Take care!!!
